Can a nursing home be held responsible for a natural death?

The short answer is no. Nursing homes are not responsible if a person dies of natural causes.

The only time a nursing home can be held responsible is if something they did or did not do led to the patient’s death and that something that they did or did not do violated standards that other similar nursing homes would have followed, reasonable nursing homes would have followed. If those standards are violated, then yes, a nursing home may be responsible for a patient’s death.
