Can I receive money even if the Florida car accident was my fault?

You cannot receive money (be compensated) in Florida if you are the complete, 100% cause of the accident. If the accident is all your fault, you’re not going to recover or receive any money.

However, a lot of accidents, automobile accidents and other accidents, can be a combination of two or more people’s fault. Florida is what we call a “comparative negligence” state. That means that we compare the fault of one or more than one party. So, even if you contribute to the accident, but you’re not the sole 100% cause of the accident, you can recover for the percentage of fault you contributed. This is determined by your lawyer and the lawyer(s) of the other person or other parties (if there’s more than one defendant) have contributed to the accident and to your injuries.
